City of Brenham to Begin Annual Water System Maintenance

The City of Brenham’s Water Treatment Plant will be temporarily changing our disinfection process for the month of August, 2016. This program, commonly referred to as a chlorine “burnout,” has immediate as well as ongoing treatment benefits in maintaining water quality. The treatment consists of changing the feed of chloramines (a combination of chlorine and ammonia) to injecting free chlorine (chlorine only). During this process, customers may experience fluctuations in water pressure and/or possible odor, unusual taste or color issues with the water. “There are no health risks and the water will be safe to drink,”said Matthew Monfreda, Water Treatment Plant Manager. During this process, water mains will be heavily flushed to remove these issues as quickly as possible.
“Systems that use chloramines must perform a system burnout from time to time and the TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality) considers this a normal system maintenance procedure,” said Monfreda.
If you have any questions regarding this treatment process, please contact the City of Brenham’s Water Treatment Plant Manager at 979.530.6170. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.
