DESCRIPTION:A growing number of Washington County residents are meeting weekly to improve their speaking and leadership skills with Toastmasters.  Every Monday evening the aspiring Toastmasters have prepared and delivered speeches\, responded to impromptu questions\, and given and received constructive feedback\, all within a supportive community. Are you looking for a fun way to improve your communication and build skills to help in your career?  Join our 2025 kickoff on January 6 at 5:30 pm.  You will now be able to participate in the Brenham Toastmasters group in-person AND ONLINE\, beginning January 6\, 2025.  In-person meetings are held at the Brenham Police Department Community Room located at 1800 Longwood Drive from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.  All guests are welcome\, and no advance preparation is necessary. However\, RSVP’s would be appreciated. You must RSVP for the ONLINE meeting in order to get a ZOOM link. SUMMARY:Volunteers Needed-NCFCA Tournament (Brenham)
DESCRIPTION:Blinn College will host the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA) Region 12 Qualifier tournament January 7-9. Students will compete in Lincoln-Douglas and team policy debates\, as well as various speech events.  Over 150 community volunteers are needed throughout the three-day event to evaluate student speeches and debates. No previous experience in either speech or debate is necessary to judge.  Judging each round is a three-hour commitment\, which includes a brief training video\, the actual round\, and time to fill out the ballot with feedback.  Volunteers can judge as little as one round on one day\, or as many as several rounds over all three days.  Complimentary snacks and beverages will be provided.  To learn more\, or to register\, visit NCFCA.org/judge or email BrenhamJudges@NCFCA.org

SUMMARY:Texas Film Round-Up Coming to Brenham
DESCRIPTION:The Round-Up\, which is a partnership between the Texas Archive of the Moving Image and the Texas Film Commission\, provides free digitization for Texas-related films and videotapes to help preserve and share the stories of Texans.  Residents can drop off films and videotapes at The Barnhill Center on Friday\, January 17th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday\, January 18th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. \nThe two-day event is part of a special weekend of programming in conjunction with the Texas Historical Commission and the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program. \nAt 7 p.m. on Friday the 17th\, the public can attend a special screening of “Starring Brenham\,” with films and videos featuring archival footage of the area.  The screening will take place at the site of the Museum on Main Street traveling exhibit\, with highlights including the Texas Declaration of Independence centennial\, Brenham Maifest Parade\, Salt Grass Trail Ride and many local businesses. \nFilms and videotapes submitted to the Round-Up will be digitized at the Texas Archive of the Moving Image’s office in Austin and returned by mail to the owners\, along with a digital copy.  To qualify for the free digitization\, the films and videotapes must be Texas-related\, and participants must be willing to donate a digital copy of their materials to the program. \nA selection of materials from the Round-Up will be incorporated into https://texasarchive.org\, a crowd-sourced library of Texas-related moving images.  Participants are encouraged to pre-register at the Texas Archive website.
