Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Offered
September 21, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pmFree
St Peters’ Episcopal Church will be hosting a Youth Mental Health First Aid training event on Saturday September 21st from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00p.m. This program is open to the public and is designed for adults that regularly interact with adolescents ages 12-18 (clergy, youth group leaders, teachers, school staff, coaches, law enforcement, social workers, health care providers, parents, etc.). Participants will learn the risk factors and warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges common among adolescents including anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, AD/HD, disruptive behaviors and substance abuse disorders. While participants do not learn how to diagnose or treat mental health challenges, they do learn how to support youth developing signs and symptoms of a mental or emotional crisis through providing evidence based interventions. This curriculum, by the National Council of Behavioral Health, has been successfully provided to almost 200,000 people across the U.S. in recent years. The training is being offered to the community at no charge to participants, however space is limited to 30 people so register early! Lunch and snacks will be provided. CEUs will be available.
